MICR codes for NABARD

NABARD MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) code is a machine readable code used for processing and clearance of cheques. It is used to identify the bank branch to which the cheque belongs. When a cheque goes for clearing, this code is read by a magnetic reader and then automatically sorted. MICR technology speeds up the whole process compared to manual reading and sorting. MICR code for NABARD is present at the bottom of every cheque leaf.

How does the MICR technology work for NABARD?

The MICR characters, which are printed using magnetic ink, are passed before a MICR reader. Initially the ink gets magnetized and when it is read, each character produces a unique waveform which can be easily identified. MICR code of NABARD is typically in either of these two fonts: E-138 and CMC-7. The MICR code allows the characters to be read reliably even if they are over-printed or concealed by stamps and signatures. This makes the system very efficient.
